Part of the service agreement with Govan Mbeki Municipality when Terra Nova Township (Town) was established is that it will be self-administered. This means that Terra Nova is basically a Private Town which is administered by the Terra Nova Home Owners Association (TNHOA).
Terra Nova Utilities (TNU) was established and contracted by TNHOA to provide the Town with basic utilities: Electricity, water, sewerage and refuse removal. The Towns water comes from Rand Water, electricity and sewerage is supplied by Govan Mbeki Municipality.
With the shortage of electricity in South Africa alternative energy sources are essential to be able to meet the consumers’ energy demands. After investigation it was decided to install bulk tanks and pipe Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) to every household in Terra Nova. TNU entered into a LPG supply agreement with SASOL and LPG is now used for all the heavy electricity using appliances in households. Every residence purchased in Terra Nova comes standard with LPG stoves, ovens, heaters and geysers. Peak Maximum Demand figures for electricity are currently even better than we expected.
